Lovejoy Drop Second Single “Pay & Display” Ahead of Debut Album One Simple Trick

Lovejoy fans, better known as Lovenjoyers, have been in a frenzy since late May, caught in a wave of neverending single releases and music videos – and album teasers – with no room to breathe in between the waves of Lovejoy after what felt like years of pleading the band for their debut album. And according to a sourced press release, Lovejoy acknowledged the wait by stating, “One Simple Trick took four years of overthinking, we are excited to underthink it from now on.”

It started suddenly – and then happened all at once. Earlier this year, the band started alluding to their debut album as “almost there,” compared to the answer that the album was coming “soon.” Then, bassist Ash Kabosu started leaving riddle-like clues in the Lovejoy fan subreddit in April, responding to fan questions with seemingly unrelated images. By May, Lovejoy had officially started teasing their debut album, and it’s been non-stop ever since.

Lovejoy’s first single of 2025, “With Rob As My Witness” was announced on June 8th, and released on June 20th, with the band’s music video releasing on the same day. The conceptual music video offered what fans theorised are insights into frontman Will Gold’s psyche, and left the fandom buzzing for weeks about what it all could possibly mean.

After festival performances at Summerfest in the US and Rock For People in the Czech Republic, mini-documentaries about the band’s travels throughout Australia, New Zealand, and Eastern Asia in 2024 being uploaded to the band’s secondary YouTube channel (lvjyetc), and relentless teasing of the album across socials, Lovejoy put fans out of their misery on the 20th of July, and finally announced that their debut record, One Simple Trick, would be out on October 3rd.

As if Lovenjoyers couldn’t be thrilled enough, the band also announced their first US tour since 2023 would kick off on October 18th in Boston, Massachusetts at the same time as the album release date. Indie blogs JamBase, AntiMusic, and TotalNtertainment showed support for Lovejoy’s debut album announcement and the coinciding tour dates.

This month, on the 15th of August, Lovejoy revealed their second single off their forthcoming debut LP, “Pay & Display,” was due out the following week, on August 22nd. When release date came around, “Pay & Display” received love from 1883 Magazine in the UK, and was listed on the publication’s ‘On Rotation’ playlist on Spotify – check it out here. The single also received support from MusicTalkers, who did a whole piece on the release and was shouted out by KBZT (ALT 94.9) in San Diego under their ‘Cool New Music’ category that “needs to be on your radar.”

According to the aforementioned sourced press release for “Pay & Display,” Lovejoy says of the single, “No-one owns anything anymore. You just rent it. Rent your music, rent your house, rent your coffee, rent your place in heaven. I guess I'm excited for my subscription-service afterlife,” with the music video being described as showing Gold “trapped in a lift with a mix of disparate characters, which then begins to fall and chaos ensues.”

We’re just a little over a month away until the release of One Simple Trick – 39 days to be exact, but who’s counting – and there’s really no telling what may come next from Lovejoy. Until their next move, you can pre-save the upcoming record here, find the band’s US tour dates below, and keep up with Lovejoy on Instagram, TikTok, their official fan Subreddit, their YouTube, and their vlog channel
