Will Gold of Lovejoy Posts New Cover of Modest Mouse's “3rd Planet”

It’s been about four months since Will Gold of Lovejoy has graced Lovenjoyers with a brand new cover.

And earlier this week, Gold surprise dropped a brand new cover of Modest Mouse’s “3rd Planet” on his ‘Wilbur’ YouTube channel.

Having previously covered tracks like Black Country, New Road’s “Good Will Hunting” (that feels like a bit of a pun on his name, we can’t lie), and Alex Turner’s “Stuck On The Puzzle,” this cover isn’t quite out of the blue, but the location definitely shocked some dedicated Lovenjoyers.

Gold recorded his most recent cover in the same location as old Wilbur content, known as the ‘ARG Room.’ And while the iconic telephone that Gold tracks his covers on tracked some attention, it was truly the location that warmed fans’ hearts.

It’s no secret that the Lovejoy fandom has suffered a few egregious blows in the last year – and it hurt a lot of people. But, the YouTube comment section is overflowing with positive sentiments from Wilbur fans, people stating that seeing him back in one his original locations “healed” them in a way, and made them feel “Wilbur” was back, “a guy with his guitar who made people smile.”

The caption states that “3rd Planet” was the “first song with a complex picking pattern,” that he had learned to “sing and play at the same time.”

He continues, “This song has always had a lot of meaning to me and I hope it encourages you to go and listen to Modest Mouse if you haven’t already.”

Bringing home the Wilbur and gaming sentiment that the video’s location inherently holds, Gold states that he’s “been playing lots of WoW: Classic lately.” He then asks, “Any WoW-ers?”

Lastly, Gold adds a small note saying that the video was “recorded in a little building that needs renovation.”

With whispers of an album on the horizon, Ash Kabosu’s cryptic responses on Reddit, and now, this cover, it feels like new music is closer than ever. We’ll see if we’re right.
