The Scoop on Lovejoy’s Debut Album One Simple Trick: Tracklist, Their New Label & Tour
Genius.com has always had the inside scoop – someway, somehow. Whether it’s the phenomena of songs popping up on the site before they’re even announced, or including information in song tracks that isn’t quite known to the public, the lyric website has become a (somewhat) reliable, early source for music news. And they sure seem to have the scoop on Lovejoy.
With a published press release listing “(Warner)” on the front, questions started arising about Warner Music Group’s involvement in the band’s upcoming release. And Genius seemed to shine a bit more light on that when listing a subsidiary of Warner Music Group as Lovejoy’s new record label and distributor for the band’s debut LP, One Simple Trick.
When looking at One Simple Trick on Genius’ website, you can see the subsidiary, ‘Revolution Records’ listed under ‘Label’ alongside ‘Warner Records’ and ‘Anvil Cat Records’ as well as under the ‘Phonographic Copyright’ section.
Supposedly, Revolution Records – owned by WMG – took on Lovejoy after Warner allegedly showed a career-long interest in the band, with the subsidy being responsible for distributing the album upon its release. Distributing in this case would be both to digital platforms like Spotify and Apple Music as well as radio, but also physical distribution of tangible formats of the record.
And not only did Genius know about Revolution Records, but they also seemed to have the scoop on One Simple Trick’s alleged tracklist. Spotify has all unreleased songs on the record as ‘Track [Number]’ while Apple Music has the song titles listed – so, it’s hard to tell for sure, but this very well could be the actual tracklist of the upcoming Lovejoy record due to Apple Music’s listing of its own.
“Baptism” – unreleased
“Pay & Display” – released
“With Rob As My Witness” – released
“White Shark Cafe” – unreleased
“Common Touch” – just announced
“Perfect Blue” – unreleased
“Foxholes” – unreleased
“Fatal” – unreleased
“Deathbox” – unreleased
“Scoundrels” – unreleased
“Monochrome” – unreleased
Details have gradually started emerging officially about the record since its announcement in July, but Lovejoy have been teasing fans with album details since the beginning of the year. Dropping hints that they were in the studio in March with photos posted to their Instagram and responding to comments on Reddit with cryptic messages throughout April, there’s been a lot to decipher and a lot to uncover.
So, here is what we know for sure.
